Despise Not Small Beginnings: The Beginning of the Solid Rock Church

After arriving a few minutes late, I entered into the chapel of the Mount Pilgrim District Center…only to find a faithful people. I embraced them and showed love to all of them as I entered into the chapel. With these people, we gathered together, praised, prayed, and proclaimed the word.

Prior to arriving, I struggled throughout the night wondering and pondering what is the Lord speaking to me to say these people. When I was told that I was going to be considered as the Pastor of the Church of Love & Peace. I honestly couldn’t see it and I had a bunch of doubts.

However, after prayer and consulting the guidance of the holy spirit…the Lord allowed me to see that he was preparing and entrusting me with this assignment, because he knew that I can handle it. When people have lost their passion or purpose, God will allow people with strong passion and purpose to encourage you and enhance you.

As I stood up to preach, I felt like Jesus. When he said, “he saw sheep scattered without a shepherd.” Not saying that the sheep were scattered without shepherd, but in the sense that there are people throughout the Jefferson County area that are sheep scattered abroad without a shepherd.

Moreover, as God gave me the word to preach…he confirmed to me through his word that was preached at that exact moment that he will protect us, provide for us, and prove his will for our lives.

After the service concluded, I realized that is the going to be the beginning of a new chapter in my life…as the Pastor/Teacher of the Church of Love & Peace. I furthermore will not count God out…because his word is true, “Despise not the day of small beginnings.” (Zechariah 4:10)

Since that day, the Lord has allowed us to relocate to the Central City area of town; our membership has grown together spiritually and numerically; and the church is now renamed the Solid Rock Baptist Church.

This is a new beginning. However, just as the Lord used a small nation to build a temple. I believe with vision and the passion that I have that our church is going to do something great.

Meditation: Put Your Ego In Check

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30, NASB)

Sitting here in my office, thinking and meditating. Every time I stand in the pulpit to proclaim the word of God, my prayer and primary focus is in the words of John the Baptist that I may decrease and that Christ will do the increase. I realized that my self cannot do what the savior can do.

Eloquently, Charles Spurgeon, the prince of preachers says, “Self must sink and Christ must be all in all!” In other words, if you are going to reach the full potential and destiny that the Lord has prepared for your life, you and I must makes ourselves less and become less important. The main person of importance is that of Jesus Christ.

The word, “I,” in this verse is the Greek Personal Pronoun – Ego! In the context of this verse, John is simply saying, “He must increase, and the EGO must decrease.” John says, that your EGO must decrease, it must die, and you must deny yourself.

The Lesson that we get from this verse is that We must let go our Ego’s and let God guide and direct our lives. When you are content to doing what the Lord Jesus Christ has called and destined you to do, and let Jesus be honored and be the center of you, then Jesus will do great things for you and your live beyond your comprehension.
